2018 MONACO GRAND PRIX – DAY 2 THURSDAY

I went for a hike this morning and was well pleased with the view; what do you think? Lewis Hamilton again arrived by motorcycle.  Yesterday he made the short trip from the pits to the paddock on this bike but without a helmet.  Talk was today that he was not in the good books as a result.

I snapped this rare shot of Kimi Raikkonen having a laugh, this time in the presence of Robert Kubica. I liked this background for a shot of Pierre Gasly jogging

On Tuesday afternoon I shot the video below to give you an idea of what it is like to photograph at this amazing track.  Click the settings wheel and opt for 1080 HD when you play it for best quality.

During the first session I got down on the asphalt like these chaps did.To shoot shots like these. I also spent some time in and out of the tunnel and I can tell you it’s a test of courage to shoot inside it.  You place so much trust in these drivers being able to keep their cars out of the barriers.  Oh, and then there’s the noise! Pierre Gasly rounded the chicane on two wheels. The afternoon session was stopped for 15 minutes when a manhole cover was identified as unsafe following detected movement. This resulted in the welding man rushing to the scene to effect the repair.  The cars are doing over a 140km/hr as they head past these high end fashion boutiques and yet there is no mesh fencing above the armco.   Not that I’m complaining as the shot looks clean. Seb Vettel sped past the local police station and got away with it.A little before that the cars round casino square. Here’s Romain Grosjean providing me with my best slow shutter speed shot at that corner. There were a raft of other spots I shot from to amass an array of shots quickly.  This differs from many other circuits.  Russia for instance has long sections where it’s hard to find a pic but here it’s a visual smorgasbord.  Tomorrow is a day off for the F1s and tonight Red Bull is throwing a huge party for the media so that’ll be a nice end to our day.  Au revour!
