They love their F1 in Italy and today the local fans were out in force. My day started with a shot of Charles Leclerc doing a track ride on Stajvelo bikes. His uncle manufactures them in Monaco and they are pretty cool.
Kimi Raikkonen was wearing a hoodie with his own name on it and looked larger than life as he navigated the Monza paddock. The fella below won the craziest hair award. Lewis’ physio Angela Cullen was full of beans when I found her behind the Mercedes garage. And here is Seb’s press officer of 10+ years, Britta Roeske, organising something. At this point, I think it’s worth stopping and admiring Kevin Magnussen’s hair…………….. That’s enough.
Ferrari threw on some magnificent local fare in their hospitality suite. Let me assure you, the anchovies in the foreground were 5-star! Thanks Ferrari, bring it on again tomorrow!I spotted Nico heading to the garage mid-morning and waited til he was nearly at the back of the motorhome before snapping him and his reflection and was well happy with the result. Prior to the press conference I waited for the drivers to arrive and snapped these two fine young men catching up for probably the first time since Anthoine Hubert’s death last week.
They have been friends for a long time and often socialise and dine out when away from the track. They spoke for a while prior to the conference as is evidenced here. Then it was time to head to the Fanzone for a drivers’ autograph session. Lando Norris was enjoying the experience up on stage, and then moved down to the signing zone to meet some very enthusiastic people. Lewis was all smiles and his hair sensational.
George Russell was taller than most of the fans waiting for an autograph. But I really enjoyed snapping some of the fans. They were very enthusiastic. But the funniest story of the day involved james Lloyd, the Renault press officer. He inadvertently grabbed a pile of autograph cards for Nico which only had a few Nico cards and the rest were Daniel Ricciardo cards. So he was handing out these Dan cards and Nico was signing them. Nico couldn’t believe it but he just took it in his stride. And finally today as I was walking back from the fanzone I came across some guys who run the FedericaMasolinF1fans page. They had printed this huge canvas and were hoping Federica might pop past. I took a pic of them and then crossed under the track where I saw Federica coming the other way.
“Where are you going?” I asked. “To the TV compound.” she replied. “Do you know what’s waiting for you on the other side?” “No” she replied. “Right, then I’m coming with you.” And these were the shots.
