CLARKSON'S CHARM

Jeremy Clarkson is a huge hit with my audience so today I was thrilled to see the British farmer, journalist and TV personality with us in the COTA paddock. He was with Top Gear Executive Producer and close friend Andy Willman (pic 4). If you were watching Sky's telecast you would have seen hiim being interviewed on that too.

He is a big supporter of Alpine and a larger than life character. Now, will we see him in the paddock again tomorrow, race day? I hope so.

TURNING IT AROUND

Earlier today, Isack Hadjar was vocal over team radio, voicing his frustrations with both himself and his Red Bull. But the Frenchman bounced back in style this afternoon, matching his best-ever qualifying result. Speaking over the radio and to the media afterwards, Isack made no secret of his satisfaction with the turnaround, even admitting he was slightly disappointed not to finish higher.

CHANCE TO STRIKE

Max Verstappen has won four of the last five Grands Prix in Texas, and tomorrow he’ll line up second on the grid. After showing strong pace throughout this weekend’s practice sessions, he’ll be hoping to beat championship leader Kimi Antonelli to the chequered flag. Behind him in P3 is teammate Isack Hadjar, setting up a potentially huge race for Red Bull. A double podium finish could prove crucial in their bid to overtake McLaren and claim third in the Constructors’ Championship.

Kimi Antonelli is on pole for tomorrow’s Grand Prix, his first time starting from the front since Spa. If he can maintain his lead, he’ll have done his part to clinch his first World Championship at the earliest opportunity.

However, if the race finishes in the order the others qualifies in, Kimi won’t be walking away with the trophy just yet. He would have the required points over Lewis Hamilton, but George Russell would need to drop back to P9 for the title to be decided this weekend.

UNCERTAINTY REGARDING MIDDLE EAST RACES!

The drivers in today’s press conference were asked what kind of assurance they were getting or concerns they had regarding the last two scheduled races in the Middle East this year. Carlos Sainz responded:

“I think they seem very convinced that it’s going to go ahead. I think on my personal side, and not speaking as the GPDA, it’s very difficult to be convinced right now because there are still things happening in the Middle East, and also there is obviously an election that is going to happen in the US and things that are going to happen on the political side of the world that could affect the next month, month and a half, very suddenly. So, I think it’s relatively premature to be so convinced.”

MAX CHALLENGED

F1 driver Max Verstappen swapped his Red Bull for a Mercedes-AMG for the final round of the GT World Challenge Europe championship, a three-hour endurance race in Portimão, Portugal.

Whilst he wasn't on the podium, the #3 Team Verstappen Racing entry was fast. Max, who was behind the wheel for the final 45 minutes of the race, managed to climb from P24 to P9.

His thoughts? “Overall, we have had a decent weekend. Unfortunately, we made a mistake with the setup of the car in qualifying, which meant that the car was sparking a little bit too much for performance. So, we didn’t qualify where we should have qualified. We adjusted the setup for the race and we were a lot more competitive.”

A few days off and he'll be off to Austin for F1 action at COTA.

F1 RETURNS TO AFRICA

Last week I posted a video about F1’s imminent announcement that they would be racing in Africa in the future and today it's been confirmed with Rwanda to join the calendar in the early 2030's with a landmark 10-year agreement.

This will see the sport return to the African continent for the first time since 1993.

The long-term agreement will see the first race in the country take place once the new purpose-built circuit in Bugesera, Rwanda, has been completed in the early 2030s.

F1's press release states, the track "will be located approximately 40 kilometres south of Kigali and adjacent to the new Kigali International Airport. It will be designed to work in harmony with the natural landscape, using the area's elevation changes to create a unique and challenging racing experience while delivering exceptional viewing opportunities for fans."
