About

Alpine’s Formula One lineage is one of the longest and most complex on the grid. The team first entered the World Championship as Toleman in 1981, before being purchased by the Benetton Group in 1986 and rebranded as Benetton Formula. Under the Benetton name, the team rose to prominence during the mid-1990s, winning the Constructors’ Championship in 1995, while Michael Schumacher secured Drivers’ Championships in both 1994 and 1995.

In 2000, the team was acquired by Renault and became the Renault Formula One Team. This marked another successful era, highlighted by back-to-back Drivers’ and Constructors’ Championships in 2005 and 2006 with Fernando Alonso. In 2011, the arrival of Lotus Cars as a major sponsor led to another rebrand, with the team competing as Lotus Renault GP before being more commonly known simply as Lotus from 2012.

Renault regained full ownership in 2015, re-establishing the outfit as Renault Sport Formula One Team. A further transformation followed in 2020, when Renault announced the team would be renamed Alpine, aligning its Formula One presence with the Alpine performance road car brand and signalling a renewed focus on long-term brand growth.

Beyond the track, Alpine has attracted high-profile investment, with notable backers including Ryan Reynolds, Travis Kelce, Patrick Mahomes, and Anthony Joshua, adding global visibility and commercial strength to the project.

For the 2025 season, Alpine confirmed a driver line-up of French star Pierre Gasly and Australian Jack Doohan. However, partway through the season, Doohan was replaced by reserve driver Franco Colapinto, marking another transitional moment for the team as it continues to search for stability and success at the front of Formula One.
