Alex Albon has committed his future to Atlassian Williams F1 Team, signing a new deal that will see him remain with the team for the 2027 Formula 1 season.

The announcement extends a partnership that began in 2022, when Albon returned to the Formula 1 grid with Williams following a year on the sidelines. Since then, the Thai driver has become one of the key players in the team’s ambitious rebuild.

His decision to stay is also an important vote of confidence in the direction Williams is heading, which lately has been up for discussion.

Team Principal James Vowles has been heading up a long-term project with the aim of returning Williams to the front of the grid. The process has included major investment in personnel, technology, infrastructure, and working practices behind the scenes.

Albon has been there for much of that transformation and his contributions have been invaluable.

After several difficult seasons towards the back of the field, Williams took an important step forward in 2025. Albon delivered a string of standout performances, including several fifth-place finishes, and finishing eighth in the Drivers’ Championship with 73 points.

Those results helped Williams record its best campaign since 2016!

The 2026 season has been considerably more challenging, but Albon’s decision to extend his stay suggests both he and the team remain focused on the bigger picture rather than the results of a single season.

“One tough year doesn’t tell the full picture, and it only gives me more motivation to keep building and pushing together with the factory and our fans to achieve great things,” Albon said.

“Our story is not over yet, so my full focus now is on doing whatever it takes to get us back up the grid.”

The new deal also arrives shortly after Albon reached an impressive personal milestone with Williams. At the Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona, his 96th start for the team saw him surpass Nigel Mansell’s long-standing record to become the driver with the most race starts for Williams. He then went on to make his 100th start for the team in Budapest.

“Alex is one of the best drivers on the grid and knows better than anyone the enormous improvements we have made in recent years,” Vowles said. “Re-signing him shows the belief we both have in the direction we are heading.”

Williams will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2027, and Albon will now be there for another chapter in the history of the famous British team.

After more than 100 races together, the focus is firmly on what comes next.
