There was plenty of chatter in the paddock this weekend, and not just about Formula 1. The FIFA World Cup Final was on everyone’s mind, and with so many nationalities represented across the teams, drivers and fans, it added a fun atmosphere to the Belgian Grand Prix.
The mood was light-hearted, with plenty of friendly banter throughout the paddock. Carlos Sainz and several members of his crew proudly showed their support for Spain by wearing the national team’s jerseys, while Williams flew a Spanish flag from the balcony of their hospitality suite.
Franco Colapinto, meanwhile, arrived at the circuit wearing Argentina’s jersey and was later handed a huge Argentine flag, which he happily posed with for photos. Adding to the rivalry, Franco’s manager, Maria, is Spanish and made it clear she’d be supporting her home nation, alongside her Scottish husband.
When the final whistle blew, it was Spain celebrating as the 2026 FIFA World Cup champions, but judging by the atmosphere in the paddock all weekend, everyone had enjoyed the build-up just as much as the match itself.
