While Lando Norris celebrated on the top step of the podium, there was a very different story on the other side of the McLaren garage. Oscar Piastri endured a much more difficult afternoon than his teammate.
After slipping to fifth during the opening stages of the race, the Australian showed promising pace and worked his way back to third following the restart. However, his race began to unravel during the pit-stop cycle.
Piastri stopped on Lap 18 in an attempt to cover George Russell, but a slow stop dropped him behind the Mercedes. He was subsequently passed by both Ferraris and fell to sixth.
Further tyre changes followed, including two late stints on the Soft compound, but Piastri ultimately had to settle for sixth place.
Despite the disappointing result, his points combined with Norris’ victory helped McLaren claw back some ground on their nearest rivals in the Constructors’ Championship.
