F1 Drivers’ Wives and Girlfriends 2020 by Kym Illman

The wives and girlfriends of the F1 drivers are a diverse bunch. These are strong, independent women from a variety of countries. This rundown of wives and girlfriends is updated from the 2019 rundown which had already within a few weeks of its release it had dated when Charles Leclerc and Giada Gianni broke up. A short time later, Valtteri Bottas and his wife Emilia parted company as did Daniil Kvyat and his partner, Kelly Piquet. That was in 2019. In 2020 Pierre Gasly and Cate Masetti Zannini ended up going their separate ways  as did Max Verstappen and Dilara Sanlik.Certainly it’s no easy feat holding down a relationship when you’re away from each other for so long, so let’s introduce you to the partners of the 2020 drivers.

Charles Leclerc and Charlotte Siné Charlotte was born in September, 1999. She was raised in Monaco and is now studying architecture. She’s known Charles for five years – in fact, her family lived next door to Charles’s mum, Pascale in Monaco.  Charlotte has quite a creative streak. She’s a talented artist, has studied music for the past 14 years and plays piano like Charles does. She’s also sung opera and enjoys sports. Her first language is French but she also speaks English, Italian and a bit of Russian.

Kimi and Minttu Räikkönen

Minttu is the queen of the F1 Drivers’ Wives and Girlfriends. She’s the wife of Alfa Romeo driver, Kimi Räikkönen. Born in 1986, she met Kimi while she was working as an airline cabin crew attendant. In January, 2015, she gave birth to Robin, she married Kimi in August of 2016 and in May of 2017, Minttu had her daughter Rianna.

She attends a number of races a year, is stylish and almost always decked out in a beautiful kit. On Instagram, she has 189,000+ followers and she’s also the brand ambassador for GuuGuu kids fashion, along with Nescafé.

Esteban Ocon and Elena Berri

Elena is 22 years old, she was born in Turin in Italy. She then went to Paris to start university and now is studying Business Management in Geneva. But where did the pair meet?

It was in Valencia, Spain, August of 2017. She didn’t know him. She had no idea he was an F1 driver. Now, Elena openly admits she is really passionate about racing. She told me that she and Esteban spent quarantine in France, mostly in their pyjamas, just killing time. She’s fluent in Italian, English and French.

Sergio Pérez and Carola Martinez

Racing Point driver Sergio Pérez is married to Carola Martinez. So where did Carola and Sergio meet? In a disco at San Miguel de Allenda. The pair live in Guadalajara, Mexico. In December 2017, they had their first child, Sergio Perez Jr. They were married shortly after in June 2018. Then they had their second child Carlotta in September of 2019.

Nicholas Latifi and Sandra Dziwiszek

Sandra is 26 years of age, was born in Poland and now lives in London. She’s a lawyer by profession and completed her Undergraduate Law Degree, Master of Laws and LPC in London. She used to be a professional pole vaulter but is now focusing on modelling.

Valtteri Bottas and Tiffany Cromwell

Tiffany Cromwell is from Adelaide, South Australia. The 32-year old is a professional cyclist now living in Monaco. She races with the Canyon Tram team and is highly regarded in the cycling arena. How did these two meet? Through mutual friends in Monaco. Their common interest: cycling. This year though, she’s been the most visible wife or girlfriend at the track attending six of the first eight races.

I asked Tiffany what type of cyclist Valtteri was and she said, “Look, he’s strong and he’s improved, but endurance is not his strength.”

Alex Albon and Lily HeGoing from a professional cyclist (Tiffany Cromwell) to a professional golfer, this is Lily He. She was born in 1999 and is currently on the LPGA tour in her second season. She was born in Chengdu, China, grew up in Canada and now lives in Los Angeles.

But how did these two meet? They discovered each other on social media and met a couple of months later. She admits that she knew nothing about F1 until she started talking to Alex. And Lily has the most followers on Instagram of any of the WAGS with 322,000+.

Nico Hülkenberg and Egle Ruskyte

Egle is tall, funny and stylish and is a fashion designer, @the_crochet_girl. She met Nico through her fashion work. It was in 2015, right after Nico had won Le Mans. She’d sold some crochet dresses to some friends of Nico’s who gave Nico Egle’s business card. The following day, she received a message from him. She admits she didn’t know him then but they’ve been together ever since.

Kevin Magnussen and Louise Gjørup

Louise is a qualified teacher.  She married Kevin in August 2019 after they’d known each other for five years. I’ve only spotted her at the track once

Carlos Sainz and Isabel HernáezIsabel is from Madrid and holds a Bachelor of Bilingual Journalism. She works in fashion as a press officer and recently did a modeling shoot in a Spanish Fashion Magazine.

George Russell and Carmen Montero Mundt

Carmen Montero Mundt is in “Business Management and Finance” according to her Instagram page. The pair first appeared together in the paddock during the Tuscan Grand Prix of 2020.

Romain Grosjean and Marion Jollès Grosjean

Marion, (an anagram of Romain), is 38 and lives with Romain and their three children in Switzerland. She was born in Saint Etienne, France, studied journalism in Paris and has been an F1 TV presenter on France’s TF1 for 15 years.  She married Romain on the 27th of June, 2012 having met in 2008. She also does the lottery presentation on French TV.

Antonio Giovinazzi and Antonella Maraglino Antonella and Antonio keep their relationship very low key.  She is in her early twenties.

Sebastian Vettel and Hanna Prater

Hanna and Sebastian have been friends since childhood, and were married in a private ceremony in early 2019. Pictures of them out and about are rare and I don’t believe she’s been to a race in the past few years

Lewis Hamilton and Florence Mueller

Lewis was recently linked to Florence, but I’m not sure she is his girlfriend, although she did accompany him to the Tuscan GP this year. But at last year’s Russian Grand Prix, he was seen with Vicki Odintcova, a prominent model in Europe. And there was some talk that they were going out but I doubt that. So I’m going to put Lewis down as a single.

Daniel Ricciardo, Lando Norris, Pierre Gasly, Lance Stroll, Lewis Hamilton, Max Verstappen and Daniil Kvyat are all believed to be single.

There’s no doubt, its tough carrying on a relationship when you’re away from your partner for up to 200 nights a season. And sure some of the wives and girlfriends pop along to various races, but for most of the year, the couples are separated. They say that behind every great man, there’s a great woman. Well, here’s a bunch of great women. They’re strong and independent types standing behind their boyfriends and their husbands.
