The Silverstone Circuit plays host to one of the iconic F1 races and normally draws one of the largest crowds of the year.

There is little in the way of high-end accommodation near the track although the new Hilton Garden Hotel on the pit straight will provide a much needed boost to room stocks when it’s completed.

Whittlebury Hall is close to the track and a number of drivers and teams stay there but it is horribly overpriced for what is basically a motel with many, if not all rooms, having no airconditioning.

KYM'S TIP

Pre-Covid you had a great chance of seeing the drivers enter the paddock if you waited at the main paddock entry gate. If that area is again a red zone, line the main road through the circuit for a glimpse of them in their cars or on their bikes and scooters.

The city of Milton Keynes is about a 30 minute drive away from the track in light traffic and offers a better range of accommodation. My favourite is the Moxy Hotel, small, funky, well designed rooms with a great lobby atmosphere and it’s a short walk to just about everything you could want.

Silverstone does have the reputation for being the most expensive F1 GP on the calendar but you can get general admission tickets that provide you plenty of viewing options.

Be wary of the traffic though it can be horrendous but arriving early and leaving late is a good stategy.
