Andrea Kimi Antonelli converted his pole position at the Circuit of the Americas to record his ninth win of the season and looks set to be crowned champion next week in Mexico.

The Italian driver had to win the United States Grand Prix and hope that his two closest rivals, George Russell and Lewis Hamilton, finished in P9 and P5 or lower, respectively.

Hamilton finished fourth, and Russell finished eighth, which means Antonelli just needs to finish at least ninth in the Mexico City Grand Prix to become the youngest-ever F1 World Champion.

It has been a breakthrough season for the 20-year-old; off the back of a difficult rookie season, he has managed to outclass the rest of the field in this new era of F1, notably keeping ahead of his much more experienced teammate in the same machinery.

His victory in Austin cements his title credentials amongst everyone in the sport, and should all go ahead without issue, he will likely have a very long Sunday night in Mexico.
