The Silverstone Circuit plays host to one of the most iconic F1 races and normally draws one of the largest crowds of the year (480,000 in 2025).

If I was choosing a grandstand to watch the goings-on I’d be picking Beckets, Luffield or Club corner if I couldn’t snare a ticket in the pit-straight grandstand.

Beware though, this race is one of the most expensive F1 GPs on the calendar and while even the general admission tickets are pricey, there are plenty of top viewing options.

With such large crowds each day and small country roads, traffic moves slowly particularly on Friday night so arriving early and leaving late is a good strategy.

KYM'S TIP

Many of the drivers stay in motorhomes inside the track. You have a good chance of spotting them on their way to the paddock if you line the road from the roundabout just inside the main gates to the drivers’ car park opposite the main paddock entrance.

The track is situated in a semi-rural area with little in the way of high-end accommodation nearby although the Hilton Garden Hotel on the pit straight has recently provided a much needed boost to room stocks, albeit it at an astronomical price.

Whittlebury Hall is close to the track and a number of drivers and teams stay there but it is horribly overpriced for what is basically a motel with many, if not all rooms, having no airconditioning the year I stayed.

The city of Milton Keynes is a 30-minute drive away from the track in light traffic and offers a better range of accommodation. My favourite is the Moxy Hotel; small, funky, well-designed rooms with a great lobby atmosphere. Across the road is a Sainsburys and adjacent to the hotel is a range of good quality restaurants close by where I had some of the best meals.

Silverstone is the home of British motorsport and is definitely worth a visit.

How to Meet F1 Drivers

The best place to see the F1 drivers at the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, is outside the main swipe gates. This area is accessible to fans holding certain tickets and there will normally be a couple of hundred people there morning and night. Most of the Formula One drivers will stop and pose/sign at some point over the weekend.

A handful of F1 drivers leave from the last turn end of the paddock which attracts a smaller crowd of fans. Many F1 drivers stay in motorhomes inside the track but drive/ride the kilometre or so to the F1 drivers’ car park. If you line the road inside the track, you’ll be able to see most of the F1 drivers arrive and leave. In 2024, Oscar Piastri was the only driver to walk to the paddock over the bridge from the Hilton hotel on pit straight.
