While the Las Vegas Grand Prix cops plenty of criticism on line, I love it.

The event takes place around the streets of Las Vegas. And like Monaco, the streets they race on, are re-opened at the end of each day’s action. The famed Las Vegas Strip provides plenty of action during the race particularly where the cars turn left into Harmon Avenue. Unfortunately there are no grandstands at the point but the next best spot to view the race from is from the grandstand at turn 1.

While tickets prices are expensive, one of the major upsides is the proliferation of accommodation. There are some 150,000 rooms within close proximity to the street circuit and many of those rooms are just a 15-minute drive from the airport in light traffic.

KYM'S TIP

Dining out on the strip is expensive but convenient. If you get off the strip you’ll find plenty of restaurants frequented by the locals and the best value meal for my money is In n Out Burger.

Most of you won’t need (or want) a car given the short walk from your accommodation to the track. Note that in late December 2023, the City of Las Vegas outlawed stopping on the overpasses which carried foot traffic over the track. Many people did this during the race to catch a glimpse of the track action but this will now land you a fine.

And finally, when it comes to seeing the drivers, only those with Paddock Club tickets will get anywhere near the swipe gates. Instead, check out the times the drivers will be appearing on stage at the Fanzone and head there.

This race is one of my favourites and I will certainly be doing a meet n greet, so keep an eye on my Insta page a few days prior to the event weekend for details.

How to Meet F1 Drivers

Back in the States, the Las Vegas Grand Prix sees most of the F1 drivers dropped off at the main Paddock swipe gates having entered the track via the overpass near Top Golf. Only those with corporate hospitality packages can access the paddock swipe gates so catching a glimpse of an F1 driver is tough.

Your best bet is to try and catch them at their hotel, with the most popular being the Wynn Encore.

Some Formula One drivers will do appearances in corporate suites at the track and if you’re in one of those, position yourself between the stage and exit and do what it takes to grab the driver’s attention on the way out.
