Miami is F1’s 11th different venue in the USA. This cosmopolitan city is home to NFL football team the Miami Dolphins, NBL team Miami Heat, the Miami Marlins (baseball), Florida Panthers (NHL) and Inter Miami (soccer), a team part owned by David Beckham.

F1 Miami 1

The track is 16kms from the coast and 27kms from downtown Miami. Traffic is heavy for the race so staying closer to the track instead of in Miami is a better alternative for those who value their time. I stay in Aventura which is home to a number of 4-star hotels and a terrific shopping mall. The trip to the track is 20-30 minutes and there is the 24-hour Nice Coin Laundry (19925 NW 2nd Ave, Miami Gardens) allows you to drop your laundry off on the way to the track and collecting it on the way back. Another positive with this race, is the choice of two airports, Miami or Fort Lauderdale.

KYM'S TIP

tyre mark

This event is probably the weakest of the 3 US races but does attract a monied crowd in the paddock and plenty of celebrities. To rub shoulders with them, get yourself a ticket to the F1 Garage which is a ground level hospitality suite at one end of pit lane next door to one of the F1 teams.

After the first race in 2022, the race organiser made numerous changes to the paddock and pit lane with new hospitality suites above pit lane and the teams hospitality suites being moved to inside the Hard Rock stadium on the football field.

F1 Miami 2

This race is a ripper for spotting celebrities and for something typically Miami, book the Beach Club where you can watch the race from your cabana or in the pool.

F1 Miami 3

The Miami International Autodrome is divided into eight zones but my suggestion for the best grandstand viewing is the pit straight or turn 11 where you’ll have opportunities to see late braking into the tight left hander and overtakes.

The only real chance to see drivers though is at the main entrance to the paddock but entry to this area is only available to those with Paddock Club tickets.

ABOUT THE Miami

GRAND PRIX CIRCUIT

The newly constructed street circuit winds its way around the Hard Rock Stadium, home to the Miami Dolphins and the city is so confident of the success of the event, they’ve signed up to host the race for 10 years.

How to Meet F1 Drivers

The Miami Grand Prix circuit is a tough one for spotting F1 drivers as they all drive into the track using Gate 11 on NW 27th Avenue. Most of the driver’s park in the F1 drivers’ car park at the West Campus end of the stadium and walk underneath the grandstand to enter the paddock. Few, if any, fans have access to this area. Sometimes drivers enter via these swipe gates and often Paddock Club guests will delay entering their suites in the hope an F1 driver uses that gate, however, it's not guaranteed.
