About Fernando
Spanish driver Fernando Alonso is the elder statesman of the 2020 F1 grid. The two-time World Drivers’ Champion was born in July of 1981 and started karting at the age of three.
After success in local, national and world karting championships he progressed to car racing at the age of 17. He won the Euro Open by Nissan in 1999 and was fourth in the International Formula 3000 Championship of 2000.
The Spanish driver’s first F1 race was in 2001 driving for Minardi and the following year he joined Renault as a test driver. In 2003 he landed a seat with Renault and went on to win two drivers’ championships with the team in 2005 and 2006. At the time he was the youngest pole-sitter, youngest race winner, youngest world champion and youngest two-time champion in the sport’s history.
He raced with Renault from 2003 to 2006, Mclaren in 2007, Renault again in 2008 and ’09, Ferrari from 2010 to 2014, McLaren from 2015 to 2018, sat out seasons 2019 and 2020, and returned to F1 with Alpine in 2021.
In 2023 Alonso moved to Aston Martin claiming 3rd place in the first 3 races of the season.
