About Lando
McLaren driver Lando Norris is one of the most exciting drivers on the 2022 grid. Born to British father Adam and Belgian mum Sisca, he won the MSA Formula championship in 2015 and the Toyota Racing Series, Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 and Formula Renault 2.0 Northern European Cup in 2016. He also received the McLaren Autosport BRDC Award that year.
After winning the 2017 FIA Formula 3 European Championship and becoming a member of the McLaren Young Driver Programme he was appointed as McLaren test driver in 2018 and 2019 stepped up to F1.
Lando’s father dug deep into his pockets to open the doors to the McLaren driver but his confidence has been repaid in full with Lando proving to be a gifted driver.
In his first 3 years driving for the team he improved steadily finishing 11th (2019), 9th (2020) and 6th (2021). In 2021 he was paired with the older and more experienced driver, Daniel Ricciardo and outperformed him over the season. He notched up 3 thirds and a second and took his first pole position in Russia. He was frightfully unlucky not to win that race after electing to stay out on dry-weather tyres while others pitted for intermediates. The rain worsened and Lando lost all chance of winning.
As a side note, he enjoys a close relationship with ex-McLaren driver Carlos Sainz; “We aren’t friends, we’re brothers” he claims and the pair are often referred to as “CarLando”.
